This 1,500 SF art and music studio for a painter / business CEO and a poet / concert pianist couple is incorporated into a new sustainable barn of a working farm. It has an attached 400 SF caretaker office, and a 1,500 SF fireproof garage below it with 8” thick concrete ceiling and walls with heat activated fire shutters at windows and doors. An adjacent 500 SF barn houses farm equipment. Due to high wild fire danger, all structures utilize non combustible exterior materials including stone, flame retardant heavy timber roof construction and corrugated rusted metal siding and roofing. A solar system is expected to generate 100% of the Barn’s electricity. Reclaimed timbers; radiant in floor heating; super insulating spray foam insulation; and non and low VOC paints, and stains; were used throughout. Giant sliding doors in the studio space create indoor outdoor living opportunities and lots of natural light.
