CORTINA LANE RESIDENCE

CORTINA LANE RESIDENCE

VAIL, COLORADO

This 4 bedroom, 4.5 bath, approximately 4,000 SF home is located on a private but very steep site with beautiful views in Vail, CO. One of the primary goals of the project was to create a dynamic yet cost effective mountain modern design that captures the fantastic views and provides indoor/outdoor living for a young family of 4 for approximately $450 per SF.

Despite the site’s 35% slope, with thorough site planning we were able to achieve the client’s goal of having the garage, great room, large mudroom, powder room, family office and master suite all on the main level. The lower level has a mechanical room, laundry, storage, 2 kids rooms each with its own bath and a guest master with a sitting area and generous bathroom as well as a large family room which opens up to a large deck with stairs down to grade.

An approximately 800 SF full height storage area and kids play area above the garage is designed to be a future 1 bedroom guest suite/potential lock off apartment. The great room has floor to ceiling windows which wrap around 2 walls, a vaulted ceiling and large sliding doors that open up to a large covered outdoor room to the west and a BBQ deck to the south. Achieving another one of the client’s goals, the outdoor room has a generous seating area focused around an outdoor fireplace and a covered outdoor dining area both with heaters in the ceiling to temper cool evenings.

The elegant lines of shallow shed roofs and modern infusion of exposed steel beams and floor to ceiling windows is complimented by rich, cleanly detailed, natural exterior materials including horizontally proportioned dry stack stone veneer and reclaimed vertical siding, resulting in a contemporary yet warm exterior seamlessly incorporated into the landscape.
