This modern 9,000 SF home in Vail, Colorado, is located on a very steep site that drops away from the street with great views of the Gore Range Mountains to the east and the surrounding hillsides to the north. The client’s key goals were to create a one-of-a-kind ultra-modern luxurious home that maximized the size for rooms, ceiling heights, views, and indoor-outdoor living while minimizing interior columns and walls. The client also envisioned a full-length lap pool on the terrace off the great room on the 3rd floor of the house.
We utilized a combination of an imported Italian custom cut linear slate, two colors of a cement board panel system, and ultra-smooth stucco for the low maintenance sophisticated, beautiful palette of exterior materials.
The pool and hot tub are one of the house's primary exterior amenities and one of the more technically challenging. Diamond Spa prefabricated the pool out of a steel frame clad in stainless steel, craned into place in three pieces, and field welded together. While the craning-in was exciting, everything fit perfectly through an extensive shop drawings process and hours of preplanning and structural coordination by the entire team. In addition, the pool incorporates a unique large acrylic window at the end of the pool to capture views of the mountains while swimming and one in the bottom of the pool for dramatic effect and bring light to the lower level patio below the pool.
We worked closely with the contractor and structural and mechanical engineers in the very early stages of design to successfully create such an exacting house for our client and work through the multiple technical challenges of such a house to bring our client's dream to a reality.
