Prior to founding Berglund Architects in 2004, Hans was an Associate Principal with Cottle Graybeal Yaw Architects (CGY) and served as the director of its Vail office for 7 years. During his 10 years at CGY, Hans designed award winning multi-million dollar custom residential mountain retreats and large mixed-use projects for such prestigious commercial clients as the Aspen Skiing Company, East West Partners, Hines Interests, and Intrawest Development Corporation. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. As president of Berglund Architects, Hans’s work integrates design excellence with sustainable green building practices, precise project management and comprehensive construction documents. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. While in college, Hans spent two semesters studying architecture, architectural history and art history in Italy and Spain. His broad art and architectural background is complemented by extensive experience working in the construction industry in both high school and college. Hans has remained extensively involved with the construction industry throughout his professional career by designing and general contracting three residences, several residential remodels and a commercial office space for himself and his family. Hans received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, College of Architecture in 1991. A licensed architect since 1995 and a member of the American Association of Architects (AIA), Hans is also a LEED Home Accredited Professional and has designed eight LEED projects at various levels of completion and certification levels. Hans was a former board member of C.O.R.E (Community Office of Resource Efficiency) in Aspen, a past Chair of Aspen Energy 2000, is currently a member of Rotary International, and is on the board of Walking Mountain Science Center (formerly Gore Range Mountain School).
Alix was brought into the world of architecture by her husband Hans when he started Berglund Architects in 2004. Working as a financial analyst for firms such as Starwood Vacation Ownership, JMP Asset Management and Vail Resorts, Alix initially helped Hans with some business related tasks in her “free time” before joining the team full-time in 2007 as the Business Manager. Decidedly left-brain dominant, Alix enjoys nurturing her creative side and learning from all of the designers at the firm while helping to keep all of those artists in line. Originally from New Jersey, Alix received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1996 before moving to Colorado that same year. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 2001, the year she and Hans married, and her M.S. in Holistic Nutrition in 2012. Alix is on the Board of Directors of the Walking Mountains Science Center, serves on the Alumni Advisory Board of First Descents and is active with the Dartmouth Club of Vail.
Adam’s passion for sustainable building practices and emerging technologies is utilized in projects that range from private residences to multi-family developments to large mixed-use buildings. Adam has extensive experience in three-dimensional computer modeling which has been a critical design tool in several of the complex residences and mixed-use projects upon which he has worked. These 3D computer models have become a significant part of the design and planning approval processes as well as developers’ presentation materials for sales documents. The high quality 3D computer images and computer walk through animations which Adam creates are an extremely valuable tool to communicate the firm’s designs to clients. Adam’s value of shared ideas and passion for sustainable design contributes significantly to the firm’s progressive open minded design environment. His collaborative team approach has resulted in outstanding design innovation and client service on the wide range of projects on which he has worked. Adam holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design, Emphasis in Architecture, from the University of Colorado and has been with Berglund Architects since 2005. Stephanie has been a practicing architect in the Vail Valley since 1995. While her projects have been diverse, they are all consistently characterized by having a strong connection to the site, embodying the character of the place, and employing environmental sustainability practices. Stephanie’s broad range of project types and scales in the mountain resort setting include private custom residences, affordable housing, mixed-use commercial facilities, resort clubhouses and amenity buildings, and public emergency response facilities. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. She has been a member of the Berglund Architects team since 2011.
Having studied and practiced Architecture in Australia, Canada and the US, Amelia’s project experience includes a diverse range of typologies, scales, locations and climates. From large community facilities to private residences, Amelia has a passion for sustainable building practices, environmental sensitivity and regional vernacular design. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Her proficiency with graphic and presentation software is a valuable tool in the design process and in communicating the firm’s designs to clients. As one of her greatest strengths lies in developing a rapport and open communication with clients, consultants and contractors, Amelia values a collaborative design process. Amelia holds a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. She joined the Berglund Architects team in 2013. Amelia has volunteered extensively with Habitat for Humanity of Eagle & Lake Counties gaining hands-on construction experience and providing housing for low-income families in our local community. Amelia has been a licensed Architect since 2019.
Alison joined Berglund Architects in the spring of 2017. She previously worked in administrative roles at ThriveMD, Vail Resorts and Art on the Rockies. Alison enjoys the added creative opportunities she is able to help with as a project assistant while still managing the day to day tasks of the office. Alison studied Art, Architecture and Design at Rhode Island School of Design and University of Southern California.
Katherine’s passion for architecture started from a young age. She loved walking through open house showings in the neighborhood with her dad and always knew she wanted to be in the design field. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. Katherine began her career with Berglund Architects in 2017.
Elisha’s basis for design is to think outside the expected architectural parameters to create innovative architectural design solutions based not only on the client's dreams, program, and budget but also on the unique circumstance of the project and site. Her projects have varied in type, size and scope, ranging from mixed-use, to healthcare, to multi-family residential to single family residential. She has an open minded and highly collaborative design process with clients and consultants, which encourages the exchange of ideas and results in dramatic designs. Elisha has her Bachelor’s degree in Environment Design from Texas A&M University College of Architecture and has worked in the field of architecture in both Texas and Colorado since 2006. Elisha has been with Berglund Architects since 2013.
For Eric, growing up and spending endless days in Colorado’s magnificent landscape led to an early admiration for nature, and a growing passion for art and design. As he transitioned through high school, Eric found architecture to be a compelling pursuit of design and technology. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Outside of the office, Eric is often found spending time with a board under his feet or enjoying the wonders of Vail Valley with his young family.
Sydney joined Berglund Architects in the Spring of 2019 as a contractor and was hired by the firm in September of 2020. Her work primarily consists of creative graphic design and marketing solutions. Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Sydney enjoys the collaborative and creative design work she gets to create with the team, especially when the work makes a clients' "dream house" come to life. Having a minimal background in architecture, but an expansive background in design, Sydney has loved getting to learn more about architecture and interior design from such a distinguished firm. Sydney received a Bachelor's degree in Digital Technology and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the Honors College at Washington State University. She is currently pursuing her Outdoor Industry MBA from Western Colorado University.

She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. As he transitioned through high school, Eric found architecture to be a compelling pursuit of design and technology. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Outside of the office, Eric is often found spending time with a board under his feet or enjoying the wonders of Vail Valley with his young family.

Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Sydney enjoys the collaborative and creative design work she gets to create with the team, especially when the work makes a clients' "dream house" come to life. Sydney received a Bachelor's degree in Digital Technology and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the Honors College at Washington State University. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. Stephanie’s broad range of project types and scales in the mountain resort setting include private custom residences, affordable housing, mixed-use commercial facilities, resort clubhouses and amenity buildings, and public emergency response facilities. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. From large community facilities to private residences, Amelia has a passion for sustainable building practices, environmental sensitivity and regional vernacular design. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Her proficiency with graphic and presentation software is a valuable tool in the design process and in communicating the firm’s designs to clients. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. Elisha has her Bachelor’s degree in Environment Design from Texas A&M University College of Architecture and has worked in the field of architecture in both Texas and Colorado since 2006. For Eric, growing up and spending endless days in Colorado’s magnificent landscape led to an early admiration for nature, and a growing passion for art and design. As he transitioned through high school, Eric found architecture to be a compelling pursuit of design and technology. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Sydney joined Berglund Architects in the Spring of 2019 as a contractor and was hired by the firm in September of 2020. Her work primarily consists of creative graphic design and marketing solutions. Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Sydney enjoys the collaborative and creative design work she gets to create with the team, especially when the work makes a clients' "dream house" come to life. Having a minimal background in architecture, but an expansive background in design, Sydney has loved getting to learn more about architecture and interior design from such a distinguished firm. Sydney received a Bachelor's degree in Digital Technology and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the Honors College at Washington State University. She is currently pursuing her Outdoor Industry MBA from Western Colorado University.

During his 10 years at CGY, Hans designed award winning multi-million dollar custom residential mountain retreats and large mixed-use projects for such prestigious commercial clients as the Aspen Skiing Company, East West Partners, Hines Interests, and Intrawest Development Corporation. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. As president of Berglund Architects, Hans’s work integrates design excellence with sustainable green building practices, precise project management and comprehensive construction documents. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. While in college, Hans spent two semesters studying architecture, architectural history and art history in Italy and Spain. His broad art and architectural background is complemented by extensive experience working in the construction industry in both high school and college. Hans has remained extensively involved with the construction industry throughout his professional career by designing and general contracting three residences, several residential remodels and a commercial office space for himself and his family. A licensed architect since 1995 and a member of the American Association of Architects (AIA), Hans is also a LEED Home Accredited Professional and has designed eight LEED projects at various levels of completion and certification levels. Working as a financial analyst for firms such as Starwood Vacation Ownership, JMP Asset Management and Vail Resorts, Alix initially helped Hans with some business related tasks in her “free time” before joining the team full-time in 2007 as the Business Manager. Decidedly left-brain dominant, Alix enjoys nurturing her creative side and learning from all of the designers at the firm while helping to keep all of those artists in line. Originally from New Jersey, Alix received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1996 before moving to Colorado that same year. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 2001, the year she and Hans married, and her M.S. in Holistic Nutrition in 2012. Adam has extensive experience in three-dimensional computer modeling which has been a critical design tool in several of the complex residences and mixed-use projects upon which he has worked. These 3D computer models have become a significant part of the design and planning approval processes as well as developers’ presentation materials for sales documents. The high quality 3D computer images and computer walk through animations which Adam creates are an extremely valuable tool to communicate the firm’s designs to clients. Adam’s value of shared ideas and passion for sustainable design contributes significantly to the firm’s progressive open minded design environment. Stephanie’s broad range of project types and scales in the mountain resort setting include private custom residences, affordable housing, mixed-use commercial facilities, resort clubhouses and amenity buildings, and public emergency response facilities. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. From large community facilities to private residences, Amelia has a passion for sustainable building practices, environmental sensitivity and regional vernacular design. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Her proficiency with graphic and presentation software is a valuable tool in the design process and in communicating the firm’s designs to clients. As one of her greatest strengths lies in developing a rapport and open communication with clients, consultants and contractors, Amelia values a collaborative design process. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. For Eric, growing up and spending endless days in Colorado’s magnificent landscape led to an early admiration for nature, and a growing passion for art and design. As he transitioned through high school, Eric found architecture to be a compelling pursuit of design and technology. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Outside of the office, Eric is often found spending time with a board under his feet or enjoying the wonders of Vail Valley with his young family.
Sydney joined Berglund Architects in the Spring of 2019 as a contractor and was hired by the firm in September of 2020. Her work primarily consists of creative graphic design and marketing solutions. Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Sydney enjoys the collaborative and creative design work she gets to create with the team, especially when the work makes a clients' "dream house" come to life. Having a minimal background in architecture, but an expansive background in design, Sydney has loved getting to learn more about architecture and interior design from such a distinguished firm. Sydney received a Bachelor's degree in Digital Technology and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the Honors College at Washington State University. She is currently pursuing her Outdoor Industry MBA from Western Colorado University.

During his 10 years at CGY, Hans designed award winning multi-million dollar custom residential mountain retreats and large mixed-use projects for such prestigious commercial clients as the Aspen Skiing Company, East West Partners, Hines Interests, and Intrawest Development Corporation. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. As president of Berglund Architects, Hans’s work integrates design excellence with sustainable green building practices, precise project management and comprehensive construction documents. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. While in college, Hans spent two semesters studying architecture, architectural history and art history in Italy and Spain. His broad art and architectural background is complemented by extensive experience working in the construction industry in both high school and college. Hans has remained extensively involved with the construction industry throughout his professional career by designing and general contracting three residences, several residential remodels and a commercial office space for himself and his family. Hans received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, College of Architecture in 1991. A licensed architect since 1995 and a member of the American Association of Architects (AIA), Hans is also a LEED Home Accredited Professional and has designed eight LEED projects at various levels of completion and certification levels. Hans was a former board member of C.O.R.E (Community Office of Resource Efficiency) in Aspen, a past Chair of Aspen Energy 2000, is currently a member of Rotary International, and is on the board of Walking Mountain Science Center (formerly Gore Range Mountain School).

Working as a financial analyst for firms such as Starwood Vacation Ownership, JMP Asset Management and Vail Resorts, Alix initially helped Hans with some business related tasks in her “free time” before joining the team full-time in 2007 as the Business Manager. Decidedly left-brain dominant, Alix enjoys nurturing her creative side and learning from all of the designers at the firm while helping to keep all of those artists in line. Originally from New Jersey, Alix received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1996 before moving to Colorado that same year. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 2001, the year she and Hans married, and her M.S. in Holistic Nutrition in 2012. Adam’s value of shared ideas and passion for sustainable design contributes significantly to the firm’s progressive open minded design environment. Stephanie’s broad range of project types and scales in the mountain resort setting include private custom residences, affordable housing, mixed-use commercial facilities, resort clubhouses and amenity buildings, and public emergency response facilities. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. She has been a member of the Berglund Architects team since 2011.
Having studied and practiced Architecture in Australia, Canada and the US, Amelia’s project experience includes a diverse range of typologies, scales, locations and climates. From large community facilities to private residences, Amelia has a passion for sustainable building practices, environmental sensitivity and regional vernacular design. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Her proficiency with graphic and presentation software is a valuable tool in the design process and in communicating the firm’s designs to clients. As one of her greatest strengths lies in developing a rapport and open communication with clients, consultants and contractors, Amelia values a collaborative design process. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Outside of the office, Eric is often found spending time with a board under his feet or enjoying the wonders of Vail Valley with his young family.
Sydney joined Berglund Architects in the Spring of 2019 as a contractor and was hired by the firm in September of 2020. Her work primarily consists of creative graphic design and marketing solutions. Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. As president of Berglund Architects, Hans’s work integrates design excellence with sustainable green building practices, precise project management and comprehensive construction documents. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. While in college, Hans spent two semesters studying architecture, architectural history and art history in Italy and Spain. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Alison studied Art, Architecture and Design at Rhode Island School of Design and University of Southern California.
Katherine’s passion for architecture started from a young age. She loved walking through open house showings in the neighborhood with her dad and always knew she wanted to be in the design field. She attended University of Colorado to get a Bachelor's of Environmental design, which later lead her to completing a master's in Sustainable Architecture, specializing in housing, from the University of Oregon. Katherine has a strong background in BIM and design software, she values the beauty in analog drawing, and is always learning and improving her skills. She is motivated to apply sustainable practices into her designs daily. Her passion for architecture is driven from her experiences outdoors, her adventures, and travel. She values the importance of nature and understands the importance of integrating the building into the site to best capture the surrounding landscape. Katherine began her career with Berglund Architects in 2017.
Elisha’s basis for design is to think outside the expected architectural parameters to create innovative architectural design solutions based not only on the client's dreams, program, and budget but also on the unique circumstance of the project and site. Her projects have varied in type, size and scope, ranging from mixed-use, to healthcare, to multi-family residential to single family residential. She has an open minded and highly collaborative design process with clients and consultants, which encourages the exchange of ideas and results in dramatic designs. Elisha has her Bachelor’s degree in Environment Design from Texas A&M University College of Architecture and has worked in the field of architecture in both Texas and Colorado since 2006. Elisha has been with Berglund Architects since 2013.
For Eric, growing up and spending endless days in Colorado’s magnificent landscape led to an early admiration for nature, and a growing passion for art and design. As he transitioned through high school, Eric found architecture to be a compelling pursuit of design and technology. This led to his decision to attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) where he played four years of collegiate Lacrosse and graduated with a B.F.A. in Architecture in 2018. Eric highly values sustainable design practices and the integration of nature and design within architecture. He joined Berglund Architects in 2019 and continues to learn and progress in pursuit of his architectural license. Outside of the office, Eric is often found spending time with a board under his feet or enjoying the wonders of Vail Valley with his young family.
Sydney joined Berglund Architects in the Spring of 2019 as a contractor and was hired by the firm in September of 2020. Her work primarily consists of creative graphic design and marketing solutions. Born and raised in Colorado, she has always looked to nature for design inspiration and has striven to keep her work focused on sustainability and conservation, goals that created an ideal partnership with Berglund. Sydney enjoys the collaborative and creative design work she gets to create with the team, especially when the work makes a clients' "dream house" come to life. Having a minimal background in architecture, but an expansive background in design, Sydney has loved getting to learn more about architecture and interior design from such a distinguished firm. Sydney received a Bachelor's degree in Digital Technology and Culture and a Bachelor's degree in Spanish from the Honors College at Washington State University. She is currently pursuing her Outdoor Industry MBA from Western Colorado University.

Hans deeply values and encourages open minded collaboration with his clients, staff and construction partners and strives to make buildings which are timeless, artful and enjoyable. His projects are characterized by innovative, high quality architecture blending local architectural vernacular designs and natural materials with contemporary influences. Hans has designed award-winning sustainable single-family residential, multi-family residential and mixed-use commercial projects throughout the west for over twenty years. Hans’s diverse experience from this wide range of project scales, types and locations provides a holistic approach to architectural design. Prior to founding Berglund Architects in 2004, Hans was an Associate Principal with Cottle Graybeal Yaw Architects (CGY) and served as the director of its Vail office for 7 years. During his 10 years at CGY, Hans designed award winning multi-million dollar custom residential mountain retreats and large mixed-use projects for such prestigious commercial clients as the Aspen Skiing Company, East West Partners, Hines Interests, and Intrawest Development Corporation. Hans led the design, managed the complex approval process and supervised construction of landmark multi owner/user projects in Keystone, Breckenridge, Aspen and the Vail Valley. As president of Berglund Architects, Hans’s work integrates design excellence with sustainable green building practices, precise project management and comprehensive construction documents. Hans’ intuitive design insight draws in part from his extensive travel experiences and architectural history background. While in college, Hans spent two semesters studying architecture, architectural history and art history in Italy and Spain. His broad art and architectural background is complemented by extensive experience working in the construction industry in both high school and college. Hans has remained extensively involved with the construction industry throughout his professional career by designing and general contracting three residences, several residential remodels and a commercial office space for himself and his family. Hans received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University, College of Architecture in 1991. A licensed architect since 1995 and a member of the American Association of Architects (AIA), Hans is also a LEED Home Accredited Professional and has designed eight LEED projects at various levels of completion and certification levels. Hans was a former board member of C.O.R.E (Community Office of Resource Efficiency) in Aspen, a past Chair of Aspen Energy 2000, is currently a member of Rotary International, and is on the board of Walking Mountain Science Center (formerly Gore Range Mountain School).
Alix was brought into the world of architecture by her husband Hans when he started Berglund Architects in 2004. Working as a financial analyst for firms such as Starwood Vacation Ownership, JMP Asset Management and Vail Resorts, Alix initially helped Hans with some business related tasks in her “free time” before joining the team full-time in 2007 as the Business Manager. Decidedly left-brain dominant, Alix enjoys nurturing her creative side and learning from all of the designers at the firm while helping to keep all of those artists in line. Originally from New Jersey, Alix received her B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1996 before moving to Colorado that same year. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 2001, the year she and Hans married, and her M.S. in Holistic Nutrition in 2012. Alix is on the Board of Directors of the Walking Mountains Science Center, serves on the Alumni Advisory Board of First Descents and is active with the Dartmouth Club of Vail.
Adam’s passion for sustainable building practices and emerging technologies is utilized in projects that range from private residences to multi-family developments to large mixed-use buildings. Adam has extensive experience in three-dimensional computer modeling which has been a critical design tool in several of the complex residences and mixed-use projects upon which he has worked. These 3D computer models have become a significant part of the design and planning approval processes as well as developers’ presentation materials for sales documents. The high quality 3D computer images and computer walk through animations which Adam creates are an extremely valuable tool to communicate the firm’s designs to clients. Adam’s value of shared ideas and passion for sustainable design contributes significantly to the firm’s progressive open minded design environment. His collaborative team approach has resulted in outstanding design innovation and client service on the wide range of projects on which he has worked. Adam holds a Bachelor of Environmental Design, Emphasis in Architecture, from the University of Colorado and has been with Berglund Architects since 2005. Adam has been a licensed architect since 2014.
Stephanie has been a practicing architect in the Vail Valley since 1995. While her projects have been diverse, they are all consistently characterized by having a strong connection to the site, embodying the character of the place, and employing environmental sustainability practices. Stephanie’s broad range of project types and scales in the mountain resort setting include private custom residences, affordable housing, mixed-use commercial facilities, resort clubhouses and amenity buildings, and public emergency response facilities. She has successfully brought projects through the community approval process throughout the Vail Valley and administrated the Cordillera Valley Club and the Brightwater Golf Community Design Review Boards. Additionally, Stephanie has worked on projects for the Town of Vail and the Town of Avon as their architectural consultant. Stephanie received a Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1990 and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Tulane University in Architecture in 1991. She has been a member of the Berglund Architects team since 2011.
Having studied and practiced Architecture in Australia, Canada and the US, Amelia’s project experience includes a diverse range of typologies, scales, locations and climates. From large community facilities to private residences, Amelia has a passion for sustainable building practices, environmental sensitivity and regional vernacular design. This informs highly functional and contextual design solutions incorporating passive solar strategies, a contemporary aesthetic and local materials. Amelia’s unique architectural perspective draws from a background in graphic design and is complemented by her extensive travels. Her proficiency with graphic and presentation software is a valuable tool in the design process and in communicating the firm’s designs to clients. As one of her greatest strengths lies in developing a rapport and open communication with clients, consultants and contractors, Amelia values a collaborative design process. Amelia holds a Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Architecture from the University of British Columbia. She joined the Berglund Architects team in 2013. Amelia has volunteered extensively with Habitat for Humanity of Eagle & Lake Counties gaining hands-on construction experience and providing housing for low-income families in our local community. Amelia has been a licensed Architect since 2019.
